This is another early one, and I think its also one of my best and most versatile compositions. I wrote it during my senior year in the jazz studies program at William Paterson University. I was in a composers ensemble led by professor Kevin Norton. It started out as an instrumental sort of slow-blues with a swing feel. However, my brother and longtime musical partner was also living with me in NJ at the time and we were starting a blues-based band called “Utica Greens.” Once I added the lyrics it was a natural addition to our repertoire and we even recorded on an EP. This recording can be heard below. The exceptional players on this recording are:
-Matt Lomeo, Vocals and Harmonica
-Dan Rufolo, Piano
-Max Stehr, Bass
-Dana LaMarca, Drums
LYRICS:
Move Slow
Lets take a walk back, where the tall grass grows
The day is over sun is sinking low
If our love is like a flower got to let it grow
And when the moon comes over the mountains we can get real close
Chorus:
(And) Move Slow
Just Move Slow
The lampposts are lit now, and the sky looks bruised
Before you can love, you’ve got to have something to lose
We can shout it out or be sure that no one knows
And when the moon comes over the mountains we can get real close
Chorus:
(And) Move Slow
Just Move Slow
Bridge:
I like the way that you make me wonder
If I’ve waited long enough
My heart is racing, you fill me with thunder
Still you make me count each touch
I’d rather be buried, six feet in the clay
Then let some other man hold you close this way
It ain’t that I’m jealous, I just love you so
And when the moon comes over the mountains we can get real close
Chorus:
(And) Move Slow
Just Move Slow
